Russia accuses Wikipedia of spreading fakenews about the war

Russia's communications regulator, Roskomnadzor, today demanded that the virtual encyclopedia Wikipedia stop "publishing false information" about what Kremlin calls Russia's "special military operation" in Ukraine.

Russia's communications regulator, Roskomnadzor, accuses the virtual encyclopedia Wikipedia of spreading false information about its "special military operation" in Ukraine.

According to Roskomnadzor, Wikipedia has recently widely reportedly spread dubious information about the "special military operation" in Ukraine and the actions of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

"Wikipedia has turned into a new thread with constant information attacks against Russians," writes the newsmagazine, citing a document from the Russian regulator.

In Roskomnadzor's view, the articles published on Wikipedia "promote a [mis]interpretation of the facts exclusively" negatively influencing Russia's image.

Roskomnadzor also recalls that it had previously sent a request to Wikipedia to delete "false information about the events in Ukraine" threatening a fine of four million rubles.

The Wikipedia platform did not pay the fine.
