The national soccer team (the Mambas) drew 1-1 last night in Bamako with their counterparts from Mali in the first round of Group I qualifying for CAN-2025, which will take place in Morocco.
The Mambas did very well in the first half, not letting their opponents play their game. With some control of the game, the "Mambas" got the goal in the 37th minute through Geny Catamo, who responded to a Bruno Langa cross with a well-placed shot.
This result stood until half-time, and was cancelled out in the second half by Bissouma in the 52nd minute after some great attacks by the Malians.
In fact, the Malians dominated practically the entire second half, creating chances to score, but the national team held on and held on to the draw until the end of the game.
With this result, Group I is led by Guinea-Bissau, who beat Eswatini 1-0 on Thursday to take three points, against one each for Mozambique and Mali.
Meanwhile, the "Mambas" will be back in action on Tuesday against Guinea-Bissau at the Zimpeto National Stadium at 3pm, while Mali will travel to Eswatini to face the local team.
