World Cup qualifiers: Mambas look to lead against Algeria

Qualificação para Mundial: Mambas buscam liderança diante da Argélia

The national soccer team faces Algeria today at 23:00 in Mozambique, in the sixth round of the qualifying phase for the World Cup-2026.

It's the start of the second round of the competition, with the Mambas looking for a result that will guarantee them sole leadership of the group and, consequently, feed their dream of going to the World Cup.

The two teams are tied at the top of the group with 12 points, but with Algeria taking precedence under the tiebreaker rules for having the best difference between goals scored and conceded.

In the first round of this qualifying round, in Maputo, Algeria won by two goals to none and this time the Mambas want to make amends by winning on home soil.

Ira This is the fifth meeting between the two teams, and in all four meetings Algeria has come out on top. Mozambique have only beaten Algeria once, in 1996, in a friendly that served as preparation for the CAN that same year.

The match is extremely important for both teams, knowing that a win, as well as being the sole leader, is an important step in the fight to qualify for the final stage of the World Cup.
