The Angolan Constitutional Court (TC), refused, this Tuesday, to approve the injunction filed by UNITA, on Friday, which sought to reject the minutes of the election results, considering that the injunction procedure was not the appropriate means.
On Friday, UNITA requested the TC to declare ineffective the minutes of the definitive results of the August 24 elections - which gave the victory by absolute majority to the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) - and that the National Electoral Commission (CNE) be ordered to admit its complaints.
In the ruling released Tuesday by the TC and signed by nine of the 10 judges gathered in plenary, the TC concluded that the request "results as an automatic effect of the law, under the terms of Article 158 of the Organic Law for General Elections" and considers that the cumulative assumptions for its decree are not met, under Articles 399 and following of the Code of Civil Procedure.
