The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, sent a message to the President of the United States of America (USA), Donald Trump, expressing his appreciation for the decision of the Board of Directors of the US Exim Bank to approve financing of 4.7 billion dollars for the Mozambique LNG Project.
Daniel Chapo pointed out that the amount to be disbursed by the US represents the largest amount of US funding for a single project in Mozambique, underlining the positive impact of this decision for the advancement of the energy sector and the strengthening of relations between the two countries.
"Your support plays a crucial role in moving this crucial project forward. The Mozambique LNG Project has the potential to generate 13 million tons of LNG per year, create 40,000 new jobs, including approximately 20,000 in the US. This support allows US companies to participate in Mozambique and contributes to global energy security, within the framework of a solid partnership between our two countries," reads the President's statement.
The Mozambican head of state also stressed the strategic importance of the project for diversifying the supply of natural gas to the European Union, strengthening energy security and reducing dependence on unstable sources.
"This project also represents a commitment to protecting the natural resources of southern and eastern Africa. By promoting responsible development, we are ensuring that these resources benefit both the local population and our global partners," he said.
Chapo concluded his message by reiterating the importance of a partnership based on shared values of peace, security and prosperity, and also expressed his highest consideration and esteem for Mozambique's strategic partnership with the US.
