The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, sent his condolences to the families of the victims of the accident, which left 20 people dead and six injured, that took place on Monday afternoon in Gondola.
In a statement issued by the Presidency of the Republic, Daniel Chapo said that it was "with deep sorrow and dismay" that he had received the news of the tragic road accident at the administrative post of Cafumpe, in the district of Gondola, Manica province.
"On behalf of himself, the Government and the Mozambican people, the Head of State sends his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, and also wishes a speedy recovery to the citizens injured in this incident," reads the statement issued by the President of the Republic.
Chapo says that tragedies like this create mourning, pain and irreparable emptiness in Mozambican families, and it is imperative that, as a society, the culture of security and prevention is strengthened, in order to avoid a repetition of situations like this
Chapo calls on all motorists and other road users "to strictly observe road safety regulations in order to preserve human life, a precious and irreplaceable asset".
