The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, today sent a message of condolence to his Malawian counterpart, Lazarus Chakwera, on the death of the vice-president of that neighboring country, Saulos Klaus Chilima.

In the message, the Head of State said that "at this difficult time, on behalf of the people, the Government of the Republic of Mozambique and myself, I would like to express our heartfelt condolences to you, the people and Government of the Republic of Malawi, as well as the bereaved family. We are close to you in our prayers and thoughts, praying that you will be blessed with energies that will enable you to bear the severe pain that overwhelms you due to this irreparable loss."

The Head of State stressed that Chilima was a true son of Africa, having always been committed to promoting pan-Africanist values, serving his country with the highest dedication towards consolidating political stability in an environment of multi-party democracy.

"We will remember him for the role he played in deepening the political and socio-economic integration of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union. May his soul rest in eternal peace," says the note from the President of the Republic.
