The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, gave a positive assessment of his working visit to Niassa province, stressing the need to consolidate peace, promote reconciliation and boost economic and social development in the region.
At a press conference to take stock of the work, the statesman highlighted the province's agricultural potential and the importance of industrialization in creating jobs for young people.
During his stay, which began on Monday, the Head of State took part in a People's Rally in the city of Lichinga, where he addressed key issues such as the country's political and economic stability, encouraging agricultural production and celebrating 50 years of national independence.
"We talked about the need for peace, reconciliation and, above all, political, economic and social stability in our country," he said.
The President of the Republic met with the Provincial Executive Council and the Council of State Representation Services to assess the implementation of the economic and social plan. According to him, the indicators show a positive performance, with emphasis on the increase in revenue collection and the hotel occupancy rate, both above one hundred percent.
"Niassa province has managed to meet the targets set, which demonstrates the efficient work of local governance," he said.
Another relevant point of the visit was the meeting with district administrators, heads of administrative posts and localities. The discussion focused on the challenges facing local governance, including the impact of Cyclone Jude on infrastructure and the movement of goods and services.
He emphasized the need to invest in access roads to ensure the flow of agricultural production and boost the local economy.
The meeting with civil servants was also a key moment of the visit. President Chapo highlighted the measures implemented during his first 100 days in office, such as the payment of the 13th month to civil servants, the salary adjustment for health and education professionals and the settlement of state debts with suppliers.
"We have received positive feedback from civil servants, who recognize the government's efforts to improve working conditions," he said.
The Head of State also took part in an agricultural fair, where he saw the province's productive potential and the implementation of
agri-livestock programs. "Niassa is a very rich province in the agricultural sector and we must continue to invest to strengthen its production," he stressed.
The private sector was also on the presidential agenda, with businesspeople expressing concerns about road infrastructure, smuggling of chicken from Malawi and excessive inspections that affect the business environment. The President pledged to analyze these issues and strengthen public-private dialogue to improve the business environment in the province.
At the end of the visit, the Head of State made a positive assessment, emphasizing that governing close to the people allows for a better understanding of local needs.
"Our mission is to govern for the people, with the people and like the people. We have noted the concerns and we are committed to working to resolve them," he said.
