TRAC was forced to cancel the resumption of toll collection on the N4 today, specifically at the Maputo Toll, due to the action of the protesters in not allowing tolls to be collected.
The Rapid Intervention Unit (UIR) was called in. Shots were fired at the scene. But the demonstrators remained firm in not allowing tolls to be collected.
In order to curb the unrest, the concessionaire decided to leave the gates open.
The protesters say they will remain at the tollbooth to control the scene. They say that no one should pay the toll because Venâncio Mondlane, the former presidential candidate, ordered it.
