The Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) thwarted an armed robbery carried out by a gang made up of a prison guard, this Tuesday, in Chimoio, Manica, according to the National Criminal Investigation Service (Sernic).
During the interception of the robbery, there was an exchange of fire between the gang and the police. From the confrontation, the prison guard was hit and is currently being assisted in a hospital unit.
The alleged assailant was shot in the abdomen, upper and lower limbs, and is in intensive care.
"When he was going to be approached, he tried to make a run for it, and he also wanted to respond to the officers, and in the same approach, the officers ended up shooting him in the abdomen, the two lower limbs and one upper limb. At this moment he is in hospital receiving treatment," said Ahmed Bolacho.
SERNIC has already initiated criminal proceedings against the prison guard at the Public Prosecutor's Office in the city of Chimoio.
"The same is indicted in the legal type of aggravated robbery crime, concurrent with illegal possession of a firearm," he explained.
Two other people who are thought to belong to the gang escaped during the exchange of fire, and work is underway to capture them.
