The PODEMOS party reiterates that the deputies elected to the Assembly of the Republic will take office next Monday, January 13, and stresses that it is committed to fully respecting the country's electoral legality.
In a press release quoted by "Notícias", the PODEMOS party makes its decision clear and also considers that all forms of legal claim over the electoral process were exhausted with the validation and proclamation of the results by the Constitutional Council on December 23.
"The decision irrevocably closes the electoral matter, moving on to another level of resolution that can be, not only through demonstrations, but also through social consultation between all Mozambicans, all the living forces of the country," reads the note.
PODEMOS clarifies, citing article 10 of the Assembly of the Republic's Rules of Procedure, that failure by MPs to take office is tantamount to giving up their parliamentary mandate.
And because it has no interest in this happening, the party reaffirms the presence of all its elected members at the solemn ceremony that will take place on Monday at the headquarters of the Assembly of the Republic.
Also in the same document, the party states that it should be a priority for all political and social actors to restore peace in Mozambique and to resolve the challenges that constitute barriers to development.
"The PODEMOS party reaffirms that its political activity is not an end in itself, but a means to solve the problems of the Mozambican people and promote the country's progress.
He adds that he wants to be part of those working on the agenda of solutions and improving the quality of life of Mozambicans, taking an active part in building definitive stability.
This position is contrary to that of the presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane, supported by his party, who believes that the PODEMOS members elected as MPs should not take office because they claim that the process was fraudulent.
