The Attorney General's Office (PGR) has decided to impose a residence permit on the politician and former presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane, as a consequence of his prosecution in connection with the post-election demonstrations that culminated in the vandalizing, looting and destruction of public and private property.
The PGR's measure was made public yesterday (11) by Venâncio Mondlane himself shortly after his departure from the PGR after a hearing that lasted almost 10 hours.
With this measure, Mondlane is forbidden to leave his residence for a period of five days without notifying the OPG.
"A sanctioning or restrictive measure was applied, which is a residence permit. This means that I can't move around without notifying the Prosecutor's Office. I can't go away from my own home for more than five days," he told journalists waiting outside.
Mondlane also said that even after long hours of hearings, the PGR was unable to tell him what the crime against him was.
"I have to say that the meeting with the PGR was cordial, but "the only problem is that, curiously, I can't answer what crime I'm accused of. Unfortunately, we spent all those hours and they couldn't tell me what crime I'm accused of."
He guaranteed that despite the PGR's measure, he will continue to carry out his political activity within the limits imposed by that body of justice.
"I will continue to do my normal political activity, my normal work. The only issue is that all movements, beyond five days, have to be reported to the Prosecutor's Office," he said.
Another piece of information that Mondlane passed on to journalists in the face of the complaints he made, was the fact that the PGR had decided to make room for his team to present the dossier of cases submitted to the courts and which had not been answered.
"These are cases that we submitted to the OPG last year and that the OPG will, case by case, dossier by dossier, give us due clarification on the state of play of each of them," said Mondlane.
The former presidential candidate called the demonstrations in protest against the results of the 7th general elections and the 4th provincial assembly elections on October 9, 2024, which he considers to have been fraudulent.
