The parliamentary caucus of the PODEMOS party said yesterday, in the Assembly of the Republic (AR), that it is urgent that the Mozambican judicial system be reformed in depth to guarantee the necessary autonomy without external pressures.
The statement was made by Avelino Mussanhane, head of the PODEMOS Party's parliamentary caucus, during the opening speech of the first ordinary session of the X Legislature of the Assembly of the Republic.
"Only with an independent and transparent judiciary will it be possible to restore the population's confidence in the institutions and ensure that democracy in Mozambique is strengthened in a full and lasting way," said Mussanhane.
In his speech shared with the media, Mussanhane also said that the lack of financial and administrative autonomy of the courts contributes to the fragility of the judicial system, making it vulnerable to external manipulation and political control.
"In addition to fighting corruption, it points to the need to create an electoral court that will release the election results 72 hours after the vote," he said.
