Part of those affected by cyclone chido now have electricity

Parte dos afectados pelo ciclone chido já tem energia elétrica

Power has already been restored to some of the customers affected by Tropical Cyclone "Chido", which hit the provinces of Cabo Delgado, Nampula, Zambézia and Niassa last weekend, leaving several damaged electrical infrastructures.

The Mozambique Electricity Company (EDM) said in a statement that by the end of yesterday afternoon, December 17, the district of Balama and part of the customers in the city of Pemba and Ancuabe, in Cabo Delgado province, Nipepe, Maúa and Metarica, in Niassa, and Morrumbala and Dere, in Zambézia province, were back online.

At the moment, parts of Pemba and Ancuabe and the districts of Montepuez, Chiúre and Érati in Cabo Delgado province are still without electricity.

According to the statement, EDM's technical teams are on the ground, working on the network to gradually restore the system. However, the inaccessibility of some locations has been the biggest obstacle and is contributing to the delay in restoring the electricity supply.

In this context, EDM reinforces its call for strict compliance with prevention and safety measures.
