Panguane and Gramane secure first medals at Commonwealth Games

The Mozambican boxers, Alcinda Panguane and Rady Gramane have already secured bronze in the Commonwealth Games, taking place in Birmingham, England. The two boxers won their quarter-final matches and secured, not only the semi-finals, but also the bronze medal..

Alcinda Panguane, in a close fight, managed to overcome her opponent, the Cameroonian Clotilde Essiane, winning by a 3-2 score.

Rady Gramane, on the other hand, was the most demolishing, as she scored the maximum points from the judges, i.e. she won all three rounds and was unanimously scored, in her fight against the Englishwoman Kerry Davis.

The two athletes will compete for access to the final of the event, this Friday. Alcinda Panguane will face the Austrian Kaye Frances Scott for a place in the final and the dispute for gold in the -70kg category.

Rady Gramane, in the -75kg category, will compete against Nigeria's Jacinta Umunnakwe in the final at 1:30 pm Maputo time.

These are the first medals won by Mozambican athletes at the Commonwealth Games, which end Sunday in Birmingham.
