The President of the Republic Filipe Nyusi, defended today the strengthening of research and expanded cooperation between countries in the region as solutions to curb terrorism.
"The fight against organized and transnational crime, and especially terrorism and its manifestations, suggests to the states an extended cooperation in the exchange and sharing of information," Filipe Nyusi said.
The head of state was speaking during the opening of the "Regional Meeting of Heads of Public Prosecutors' Offices and Criminal Investigation Police of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), which runs from today until Friday in Maputo.
For Nyusi, the fight against terrorism requires "blocking" the channels and sources of funding, which are usually outside the region where the insurgents wreak terror.
"Financing and recruitment occurs outside the site of the attacks, so it is urgent that the judiciary adopt a new way of organizing and cooperating to strengthen more expeditious and flexible measures in preventing and combating organized and transnational crime, with a focus on terrorism and violent extremism," he stressed.
The focus on a thorough investigation by the region's justice agencies is seen by the head of state as fundamental, as this is the condition for the masterminds of these incursions to be identified and held accountable.
"The phenomenon of terrorism causes the displacement of thousands of citizens, thus setting back the sustainable development of the country, the region and the continent, in addition to attacking our sovereignty and territorial integrity," he noted. (Lusa/msn)
