Ilídio Miguel is the new Director General of the National Penitentiary Service (SERNAP).
During the inauguration, the Prime Minister demanded that the new director-general adopt measures to end overcrowding in prisons and strengthen security in order to combat prisoner evasion.
"Prison overcrowding continues to be one of the main challenges facing our penitentiary system," said Benvinda Levi.
"We hope that under your license, SERNAP will strengthen its institutional capacity, improve the conditions of the establishments, the prison guards and promote programs for the rehabilitation and social reintegration of prisoners," added the Prime Minister.
Benvinda Levi also wants the Prison Service to have diversified sources of income in order to improve the living conditions of inmates. On that occasion, she challenged the newly appointed official to excel in ethics and professionalism.
She also called on the newly appointed minister to carry out his duties responsibly and to strengthen coordination and coordination with the various players in the administration of justice and with civil society.
