Nigeria makes largest ever drug seizure

Nigeria's National Drug Law Enforcement Agency seized 1.8 tons of cocaine at a warehouse in Lagos on Sunday. This is the largest drug seizure in the country and is valued at $278 million.

The seizure took place in the Ikorodu area of Lagos as the cartel was preparing the drugs to sell to buyers in Europe and Asia and other corners of the world.

In connection with the case five people are at accounts with justice. According to the agency, these individuals are alleged members of an international drug trafficking group and under investigation since 2018.

The agency calls the seizure "a historic blow to the drug cartels and a stark warning that they will all go down if they don't realize that the game has changed."

Drug seizures have increased in West Africa over the past year. Traffickers have made that area a hub for moving illegal substances between South America and Europe.
