A young woman, 23 years old, is in police custody, since Sunday, at the District Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), in the district of Ile (Zambezia), accused of killing her own son, only two days old, by asphyxiation.

The baby, according to the author of the crime confessed to the authorities, is the result of an extra-marital relationship. She added that she feared her husband's reaction, and chose to murder him, in order to later simulate his disappearance.

The spokesman for the PRM Provincial Command in Zambezia, Sidner Londzo, said yesterday in Quelimane, at the usual briefing, that the young woman gave birth to the baby, and after two days, put him in a basket and took him to the edge of a river, where she covered him with clothes and returned home. When questioned by her relatives, the young woman simulated her disappearance.

In another case, a teacher is detained in the cells of the Luabo District Command, accused of sexually violating a fifteen year old girl.

The victim, according to the police, was taking care of the children of the aggressor who took advantage of his wife's absence to drag the girl into the bedroom, where he consummated the crime. The rape was proven through laboratory tests.
