Mozambique is third African country with 5G technology

Mozambique is the third African country that will commercialize 5th generation (5G) wireless communication technology. This follows the technology pre-launch held recently by Mozambique Telecom (Tmcel).

Mozambique thus joins the Republics of South Africa and Kenya, with Tmcel being one of the first African operators, majority state-owned, to pre-launch the technology in reference.

This act fits into the plans for modernization and technological expansion as well as in the context of the strategy for developing the National Telecommunications Network.

Huawei, the Chinese company that is implementing the project, and the vice-minister of Transport and Communications, Manuela Rebelo, were unanimous in stating that 5G technology will bring major changes to public and private services, boosting the economic development of Mozambique, as is already happening in the world.

"5G technology is the most cutting-edge technology in the telecommunications industry, and at Tmcel it will initially operate in conjunction with the 4G network, before its fully autonomous development over time," she said.

According to Manuela Rebelo, the advantages that 5G brings to Mozambique are vast, allowing the country to overcome many structural, systemic and developmental challenges.

For his part, the president of the Board of Directors of Tmcel, Mahomed Rafi- that Jusob, considered it a special moment for demonstrating that Mozambique is on the wave of modern technology in the world.

For Jusob, 5G technology does not belong to the operators, it is a service for Mozambicans: "it is a service that not all countries have. It is a service with high quality to realize greater connectivity at a speed up to 10 times greater than the speed currently existing in the country," he emphasized.

Also speaking, Huawei Mozambique's General Manager, António Hou, indicated that "together we must work tirelessly so that high quality telecommunications reach everyone, keeping people connected.

He emphasized that a big step has been taken and a new and more eficient way of communicating has been introduced in Mozambique.
