Meta prepares subscription service for Facebook and Instagram

Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, announced the new product via his Instagram account. The option will be available on both Facebook and Instagram, but they will be separate subscriptions.

Facebook's parent company, Meta Platforms Inc., is preparing a subscription service, called Meta Verified, which will include additional benefits and functions, including 'account verification stamps', for those who pay.

According to EFE, the subscription will cost 11.99 dollars a month, or 14.99 dollars if purchased via the iOS app, and is aimed mainly at content creators.

In addition to the 'account verification seal', the subscription includes "proactive account protection, access to account assistance and greater visibility and reach", according to Meta, in a statement quoted by EFE.

Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, quoted by Lusa, announced the new product via his Instagram account. The option will be available on both Facebook and Instagram, but they will be separate subscriptions.

Subscription offers have become popular for social media companies in recent years as a way of diversifying their business, which is largely dependent on advertising.

Snap Inc. has an offer called Snapchat Plus, and Twitter Inc. is also promoting a subscription offer.

Meta makes almost all of its profits from advertising, but it is an inconsistent source of revenue and dependent on the state of the economy.

The most 'valuable' aspect of Meta's subscription offer is the increase in visibility, since highlighting an account on Facebook or Instagram is more difficult these days, even among that account's followers.

According to the company, greater visibility would mean greater "prominence in some areas of the platform, such as search, comments and recommendations".

Furthermore, unlike Twitter, which does not verify a user's identity by signature, Meta will require users to confirm their identity with an official ID document in order to receive the 'verification stamp'.

Meta will start testing the subscription in Australia and New Zealand this week.
