The members of the new government sworn in on Saturday (18) in Maputo by the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, have 45 days to declare their assets and submit the respective documents to the Attorney General's Office (PGR).

He was speaking during the first ordinary session of the Council of Ministers on Saturday, immediately after the swearing-in ceremony of 12 ministers,

The President of the Republic said after the swearing-in ceremony of 12 ministers that all ministers must comply with the provisions of the Public Probity Law, which calls for the assets form to be sent to the PGR.

"Don't forget, as soon as you take office, you have 45 days to submit your assets declaration to the Attorney General's Office, under the terms of the Public Probity Law," he said.

The aim of submitting the declaration, according to Chapo, is to safeguard the transparency, ethics and image of the government. "That's why I'm leaving this legal recommendation," he added.

The declaration must contain personal identification data and all the elements that allow an accurate assessment of the assets and income of the declarant and their spouse, or person living with them in a situation similar to that of a spouse, minor children and legal dependents.

The declaration also includes real estate assets, quotas, shares or other shares in the capital of civil or commercial companies, rights over boats, aircraft or vehicles, rights to use and exploit land, livestock, securities portfolios, bank accounts, mobile portfolios, equivalent financial investments, provided that they exceed 800,000 meticais.

The declaration is made and deposited electronically, on an electronic platform. In cases where it is not possible to send it electronically, the document must be submitted in person or by an agent with power of attorney.

In addition to ministers, the law also covers the heads of state institutions, political party leaders, magistrates, advisory judges, managers, administrators, coordinators and project managers at all levels, to be implemented in state bodies, including the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), municipal police, traffic police, agents of the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) and all agents of all branches.

The law also covers those hired, with or without pay, by local state bodies, substitutes for any position or function for more than 90 days, and other political and public positions that may be created.

Where both spouses, or persons living in a situation similar to that of a spouse, are obliged to submit a declaration, a single declaration may be made.

Declarations are deposited with the PGR, provincial and district prosecutors' offices and the Administrative Court within 60 days of taking office. (AIM)
