The Mayor of Maputo, Rasaque Manhique, signed a memorandum of understanding with the City of Rio de Janeiro yesterday afternoon in Brazil.
According to a "Notícias" publication, the memorandum aims to strengthen cooperation ties in the fields of Economic Activities and Tourism, Education, Culture, Health, Youth and Information and Communication Technologies.
Manhique believes that the signing of the memorandum is an example of the importance of cooperation between Portuguese-speaking cities at a time when they are facing challenges linked to globalization, climate change, demographic growth and migration.
He said that the protocol would boost cooperation between the two cities and peoples.
The memorandum was signed during the opening of the XLI General Assembly of the Union of Portuguese Language Capital Cities (UCCLA) and will last for four renewable years.
