The intense heat that has been felt in Maputo province in recent days has destroyed large areas of agricultural crops and caused losses for farmers in the municipality of Matola.
This situation could worsen the shortage of vegetables in the main markets in Maputo city and province in the coming days.
Of the crops most affected by the intense heat in that part of the country, lettuce and cabbage stand out in the lowlands, as do corn and peanuts in the highlands, according to RM.
The president of the Union of Farmers' Associations in the Green Zones of Matola, Alexandre Honwana, said that due to the phenomenon, there is a shortage of vegetables in the fields.
He pointed out that because of these losses, some farmers are having difficulties relaunching their crops. (RM)
