Maputo will be the stage for the first edition of the Mozambique-South Africa Gospel Music Festival. The event, which is organized by Shawyta, will take place at the UEM University Cultural Center, on July 30, at 4 pm, and will feature the participation of Mozambican and South African artists, especially singer Shawyta Simbine, who will be accompanied by artists Princess Sophia, Tânia Chilaule, Raimundo Sive, Lourena Nhate, Lázaro Sampaio, Edson Matavele and Bikiza.
On the South African side, the Gospel Music Festival will feature Maureem September, Mercy, and Themba Nyathi.
Singer Shawyta Simbine, representative of Shawita Eventos and mentor of the initiative, says that the festival arises as a way to enhance the gospel and make the national artistic field truly diverse and rich, embracing this musical genre without regard to religion.
"We intend to celebrate gospel, to celebrate life. We want to praise and bring together all lovers and sympathizers of this musical genre without exception. Gospel music has more and more followers and I believe that our country is on a good path," he said.
"With this initiative we want to contribute to the development of this musical genre and to the emergence of the national gospel industry. This is the beginning of a long journey. We will not stop because we believe that the future is now," he added.
Shawyta Eventos started producing gospel concerts in 2020, but its great ambition is to consolidate and transform this initiative into an international festival, so the first step has been taken with the realization of this festival that has already started, bringing together artists from two countries.
Shawyta Simbine is a Mozambican singer who embraced gospel music more than 10 years ago. It is in this musical genre where she found her emotional and spiritual refuge, which is why she decided to share her satisfaction with the general public.
The singer has already performed and participated in several concerts inside and outside the country.
