Inhambane province may not reach its target of receiving more than 60,000 tourists, both international and foreign, for the festive season.

By last Wednesday, around 13,000 accommodation reservations had been canceled as a result of the demonstrations that have marked the country, reports Rádio Moçambique, quoting the director of the Culture and Tourism sector, Emídio Nhantumbo.

Nhantumbo was speaking on Thursday during the launch of the Welcome to Inhambane campaign, as part of the festive season.

"We wanted to appeal to tourists who haven't been to Inhambane yet, especially national and foreign tourists, to use air transportation, which is safer, to avoid situations where they think they might encounter some insecurity along the way," he said.

Since October 21, the country has been experiencing political and social tension, caused by the election results of October 9.
