The national soccer team, the Mambas, lost 1-0 to Mali this Friday in the penultimate match of Group I, qualifying for CAN Morocco 2025.
With this result, the Mambas will have to "discuss" qualification in the final round on Tuesday in Bissau, when they face the local team.
In a stadium with a small crowd to support the Mambas, the Malians came in motivated and determined to secure qualification, and created the first dangerous situation in the first few minutes of the match through a direct free kick, well saved by Ernan.
The Malians continued to press and in an individual move by Doumbia, they scored with a low shot that gave Ernan no chance in the 18th minute.
Mozambique woke up in the second half and put pressure on their opponents in search of the equalizer.
The best chances to level the match came from Guima, Bruno Langa and Geny Catamo, but they were unable to break through the opposition's goal, thanks to some fine saves from the Mali goalkeeper.
To qualify, the Mambas need to draw or not lose by more than two goals against Guinea Bissau next Tuesday.
