Right now, sharing links in stories is reserved for pages with at least 10,000 followers, but Instagram is testing the possibility of extending this feature to all users. The Verge says that the idea is to provide a sticker that can have an associated link, as with mentions, for example.
This means that the "swipe up" is still reserved to a more restricted group of pages, but that the generality of users may have an alternative to also share website links, for example. In terms of the end result, the logic is the same: by swiping or clicking, whoever sees the story is transported to another location.
Vishal Shah, head of Product at Instagram, says that, for now, it is a small test, conducted only for the purpose of better understanding how this tool would (or would not) be beneficial to users. The Instagram team will analyze the type of links shared, paying special attention to potential misinformation or spam content.
The same responsible also emphasizes that links in the form of stickers make more sense for Instagram, in line with how the platform has evolved. "This means that this is the system of the future that we would like to have," he says, stressing that it would be transversal to all accounts - that is, the "swipe up" may be near the end.
