Inhambane. Company abandons tomato production due to lack of market

At a time when the cost of living tends to rise in the country, Agri-Maçaroca, a company dedicated to tomato production, in Vilankulo, Inhambane province decided to abandon production due to lack of market.

Hen Van, owner of the company, said quoted by Radio Mozambique that the losses due to the situation, reached more than 10 million meticais.

According to the source, until last year the company produced about 20,000 tons of tomatoes, but due to difficulties in placing them on the market, more than half of this production deteriorated after the harvest.

The source also indicated that despite abandoning tomato production, the company, which employs more than 300 permanent and seasonal workers, is betting on the cultivation of corn, potatoes, butter beans, and bananas, in an area of more than a thousand hectares.
