Five PRM agents involved in the assault of a couple in Homoine, Inhambane province, including the head of operations, have been suspended from their operations.
The Provincial Commander of the PRM in Inhambane, Feliciano Chongo, who provided the information, also said that a disciplinary process had been opened to hold the police officers administratively responsible.
The case was triggered by a video circulated on social media in which PRM officers brutally assaulted a couple accused of robbery as a way of obtaining the truth.
Quoted by O País, the provincial commander distances himself from the agents' behavior and says that it reveals the character of individuals and not of the corporation.
The source assured that the corporation will not be lenient with the agents, to ensure that they pay for the crime while at the same time trying to curb similar behavior by other agents.
The agents have already been made defendants in a criminal case that was opened by the Inhambane Provincial Prosecutor's Office, and will have to answer in court for the "macabre" action they perpetrated against the couple.
