"In the last five years, India has been a strategic partner for Mozambique, the third largest partner in terms of exports, with a total of 5.8 million dollars, with a growth of 5%, corresponding to 15% of the total volume of exports," said Silvino Moreno, quoted by Lusa.

He was speaking at the opening of the Mozambique India Exhibition Fair, a two-day event that will bring together businesspeople from both countries in the city of Maputo to discuss investment strategies.

For the Minister of Industry and Trade, the good relations that exist between the two countries open up space for numerous opportunities to materialize, highlighting the growing presence of large companies from India in the area of mineral resources and health.

"India's competitive, entrepreneurial and diversified capacity in terms of capital, technology, experience and partnership makes it a privileged partner for Mozambique," he added.

According to the source, India is sixth on the list of Mozambique's ten biggest investors. Coal, cashew nuts and beans are among the main products that India buys from Mozambique.

In the first quarter of 2020, India was Mozambique's second largest trading partner, after South Africa, in terms of both imports and exports, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE).
