The Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP) and India want to strengthen cooperation "in the most diverse areas," including economic and on the integration of the Indian diaspora in the community's member states, the executive secretary of the Portuguese-speaking organization announced today.
The head of Indian diplomacy, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, is expected to meet with his counterparts from CPLP member states in New York, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Zacarias da Costa told Lusa.
According to the executive secretary, this meeting was requested by the Indian foreign minister to the CPLP.
"The meeting is aimed at deepening not only cooperation in various areas - India is a very advanced country - but also at looking at how the integration of the Indian diaspora in our countries is being done, and how we can work much harder" in this direction, said the Timorese diplomat, who heads the executive secretariat of the CPLP.
Zacarias da Costa also announced that in the first week of December, it is planned to hold the Lusophone week in Goa, a joint initiative of the CPLP, Camões - Institute for Cooperation and Language, the office of the Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities and the authorities of India.
