The districts of Cahora-Bassa, Mágoè, Zumbo and some areas of Maravia may experience above-normal rainfall during October, November and December this year, as part of the current rainy season.
Speaking to "Noticias", the head of the Observations and Networks Department at the Provincial Delegation of the National Meteorological Institute (INAM), Alberto Macamo, clarified that these forecasts do not mean that these areas will be affected by floods.
"Flooding can occur not only because of excessive rainfall, but also because of other factors. It is possible for them to occur even with low rainfall, if it rains heavily for 24 hours, as the soil may not be able to absorb all the water, resulting in widening," he said, as quoted in the same publication.
According to the source, forecasts indicate a significant improvement in climatic conditions in almost all the districts in the region, except for northern Macanga, Angónia and Tsangano, where rainfall should be at normal levels, with above-normal trends.
He also said that they monitor weather conditions on a monthly basis, which allows them to have continuous control over the weather, adding that this is essential because the atmosphere is dynamic and can change at any time.
Macamo assured that whenever there are updates they are shared with other institutions, such as the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD), ensuring that everyone is informed and prepared for eventualities. (Source: News)
