Impact of climate change could push 1.6 million people into poverty by 2050 - Report

An analysis by the World Bank, recently published on its website, entitled Mozambique Climate and Development Report, states that the impact of climate change could push 1.6 million people into poverty by 2050.

In the document, the international financial institution also states that climate change could reduce the income generated by rain-fed crops by up to 30%.

According to World Bank analysis, the economic impact of climate disasters on the road network could amount to 1.1% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

In the field of suggestions, the Bank points to integrating climate change into the national development strategy, managing the risks of the energy transition, as well as investing in policies that increase climate resilience in the country.

It should be noted that Mozambique has been recurrently affected by various climatic phenomena that have flooded various agricultural crops and development infrastructures.
