Ilícitos eleitorais levam a detenção de 39 cidadãos

The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) detained 39 citizens between August 24 and October 6, 2024, in connection with 60 electoral offenses.

The information was provided this Monday (14) by the spokesman for the General Police Command, Orlando Mudumane, at a press conference to take stock of the election campaign, voting and the release of the results.

Quoted in the AIM publication, Mudumane said that the voting process, which took place on October 9 throughout the country and exceptionally in the districts of Gilé and Maganja da Costa, Zambezia province, was conducted in an orderly and peaceful atmosphere.

Of the electoral offenses, criminal offenses stand out, and 37 individuals were arrested in connection with them.

"As a result, a total of 87 pieces of documentation were drawn up and issued to the Public Prosecutor's Office for the respective legal procedures," said Mudumane.

Regarding the period after the vote and the announcement of the preliminary results, the source said that PRM has been concerned about the attitude of some politicians.

"The PRM has been following with great concern the escalation of speeches and information broadcast on social networks and other digital media and/or platforms that contribute greatly to the incitement of violence and widespread public disorder and illegal demonstrations in the country," he said.

The PRM said it was carrying out an in-depth investigation and close surveillance of cyberspace in order to neutralize the perpetrators and hold them criminally responsible.

The police also say that the appropriate documents have already been identified and are being processed by the Public Prosecutor's Office.
