IGEPE orders investigation into suspected corruption at LAM

IGEPE manda investigar suspeita de corrupção na LAM

The Institute for the Management of State Holdings (IGEPE) has instructed Fly Modern Ark and Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) to ascertain the facts and immediately channel the suspicions of corruption reported at the flag carrier to the authorities.

Fly Modern Ark (FMA), the company hired by the government to help restore LAM's finances, which is in the red, denounced a week ago at a press conference the occurrence of acts of corruption, some of which were related to the embezzlement of funds in favor of third parties, bank accounts set up abroad and POS held by people outside the company.

"In view of the seriousness of the information that has come to light, the IGEPE, the representative of the state shareholder in LAM and the entity that manages and coordinates the state business sector, has instructed the FMA and LAM to ascertain the facts and immediately channel the suspicions to the competent authorities, and a request for an investigation has been submitted to the Maputo City Public Prosecutor's Office," says the statement quoted by "Notícias".

In the same statement, the IGEPE reiterates its commitment to fairness, transparency and legality in the management of public capital and expresses its willingness to cooperate with the investigations to find out the truth.
