HCB prepares for the increase of discharges

The Hydroelectric of Cahora - Bassa, (HCB) in Tete, will begin additional discharges, next October 1st, increasing from 1600 to 3600 cubic meters per second, according to an official company source.

Rosaque Guale, HCB's director of Water Resources and Environment, said, cited by RM, that the aim of the releases is to guarantee control of the water levels in the reservoir, to safeguard the safety of the structure, and to increase the storage capacity, in view of the coming rainy season.

The source said that the reservoir is at 95,22% of its full storage capacity, close to 100%.

The authorities in charge of managing the country's water resources foresee that the operation will raise the water levels in the main course of the Zambezi River, covering the districts of Tambara, in Manica province; Moatize, Doa, Mutarara in Tete, Chemba, Caia and Marromeu in Sofala, Mopeia, Luabo and Chinde in Zambezia.
