The government says it has no intention of proposing a law limiting the number of children per couple to four, stating that it is up to each family to decide on the number of children.
The position was taken by the Prime Minister, Adriano Maleiane, who stressed that at no time had the government announced a limit on the number of children, as is the case in some Asian countries.
According to Maleiane, quoted by AIM, "there is no orientation in this direction", the government just wants to draw attention to responsibility with regard to the number of children.
"We can have as many children as we want. But the only condition is that we must create the conditions to give better education and training to this person we are giving birth to," said the government official a few days ago in Quelimane.
