Frelimo MP Gabriel Júnior, known as Filho do Povo (Son of the People), submitted his candidacy for the presidency of the Republic at Frelimo party headquarters on Monday.

In a statement on his Facebook page, Gabriel Júnior showed his willingness to run and said that his victory would be an achievement for the people of Mozambique, although he recognizes that the final decision rests with the party.

"Today is one of those days that I'm leaving my party to show my availability to run for the presidency of my country. And a dream is a dream, a hug," said Gabriel Júnior moments after submitting his candidacy.

With this candidacy, Gabriel Júnior joins figures such as Samora Machel Júnior, António Hama Thai, José Pacheco and others, who have also expressed their intention to run for the Presidency of the Republic.

On May 3, the Frelimo party will decide the candidate who will run for the Presidency of the Republic for the same party in an extraordinary session.
