Last year, the Mozambique Sovereign Fund (FSM) received 84.72 million dollars in revenue from the extractive industry, mainly oil and natural gas exploration.
Overall, the WSF has already deposited 158.8 million dollars, including the amount for 2022 and 2023.
The revenues are deposited in the Transitional Account at the Bank of Mozambique (BdM), as stipulated by the law establishing the WSF.
The amounts collected, according to "Notícias", come essentially from the tax on mining production, which contributed 59.62 million dollars, oil profit, which brought in 98.07 million dollars, and a production bonus of 7 million dollars.
According to the National Directorate of Treasury and Economic and Financial Cooperation, in the first nine months of 2024 the FSM accumulated approximately 8.5 billion meticais.
Approved by the Portuguese Parliament in 2023, the GSF will be financed mainly by revenues from natural gas exploration projects, guaranteeing transparent and sustainable management of these resources.
Projections, according to the newspaper, indicate that by the 2040s revenues could reach up to 6 billion dollars a year.
