According to the National Meteorological Institute (INAM), cyclone "Freddy" could hit the Mozambican coast from the early hours of Saturday, through the districts of Pebane and Mangaja da Costa, in Zambézia province.
There is also a forecast of heavy rain, locally very heavy, between 100 and 200 millimetres in 24 hours.
According to Acácio Tembe, from INAM, the bad weather could also hit the provinces of Sofala, Manica and Tete.
Until yesterday afternoon, the system was described as a severe tropical storm, located near the coast of Madagascar, in the direction of Mozambique, with a slow movement of around five kilometers per hour.
INAM also predicts that the system will enter the country as a category III cyclone, with winds of around 160 kilometers per hour and gusts of 180 to 190 km.
