Filipe Nyusi says EU funding for Rwanda is a gain for Mozambique"

Filipe Nyusi diz que financiamento da UE ao Ruanda representa um ganho para Moçambique”

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, considered the funding of 20 million euros approved by the European Union to support Rwanda to be a "double win" for Mozambique.

For Nyusi, who was speaking yesterday in Harare, Zimbabwe, after the close of the extraordinary SADC summit, the European Union's support is intended to strengthen the military capabilities of the Rwandan troops that are operating alongside the Mozambican forces in the northern theater of operations.

The Mozambican statesman was responding to a question raised about why European Union funding was directed to Rwanda instead of directly to Mozambique.

The Head of State also argued that Mozambique already benefits from direct support from the European Union in various areas, including military training and other strategic initiatives, which has so far amounted to 800 million euros. (RM)
