While not giving much more detail, including a release date, Mark Zuckerberg said that for Facebook, the launch of the device will be critical to "continuing to make progress" in the development of its augmented reality glasses.
In September 2020, Mark Zuckerberg "lifted the veil" about his company's plans for smart glasses and augmented reality during the Facebook Connect event. Now, the social network CEO confirms that smart glasses will be the next device to be launched by the tech giant.
"Looking ahead, the next launch will be of our first Ray-Ban smart glasses produced in partnership with Essilor Luxottica," Mark Zuckerberg revealed during the presentation of Facebook's latest financial results quoted by the "Sapotek" portal.
While he didn't give out many more details about the device itself or even when it will be released, he said that for the company it will be a key thing to "continue to make progress" in the development of its augmented reality glasses.
But remember, when he revealed the deal with Luxottica during the 2020 edition of Facebook Connect, Mark Zuckerberg indicated that the project would come to fruition in 2021 with a first model of smart glasses from the Ray-Ban brand.
In the world of virtual reality, Mark Zuckerberg has announced that in the future the company's headsets will be able to capture, analyze, and translate the facial expressions of its users into more realistic digital avatars.
"(...) I would love to get to the point where we have realistic avatars of ourselves, a point where we can maintain eye contact with someone and express feelings expressively and naturally with our avatar," the Facebook founder and CEO said in a recent interview with the international press.
