The Israeli army announced on Thursday that it had completed the siege of Gaza City, a week after the start of its ground operation in the Palestinian territory of the Gaza Strip.
"Our soldiers have completed the siege of Gaza City, the center of the Hamas terrorist organization," Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said at a press conference, quoted by Notícias ao Minuto.
The army spokesman reiterated that the concept of a ceasefire is not on the table.
Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on October 7, considered to be the most intense in recent years. The attack left more than 1,400 people dead, most of them civilians, and more than 200 hostages and led to the Israeli army retaliating in force, with daily bombardments to the north of the Hamas-controlled enclave.
On the Gaza side, there are 9,061 dead, including 3,760 children, according to the local authorities.
