Victor Córdon Studios and the Camões Center unite for contemporary dance

Estúdios Victor Córdon e o centro Camões unem-se em prol da dança contemporânea

Estúdios Victor Córdon (EVC) in Lisbon and Camões - Portuguese Cultural Center in Maputo develop a partnership through a joint programming over three seasons (2021 - 2023). This partnership is the result of a desire to create bridges between the two countries and enable the circulation and internationalization of dance.

This relationship between the two entities was formalized on May 11th of this year, through the signing of a protocol between Camões - Institute for Cooperation and Language and OPART - Organismo de Produção Artística E.P.E., which manages the creative platform Estúdios Victor Córdon. The protocol aims at framing the activities developed between the EVC and Camões - Portuguese Cultural Centre in Maputo and broadening the collaboration between the two institutions.

Besides promoting the collaboration between the two institutions, this protocol allows this type of collaboration to be extended to more points of the external network of Camões I.P., allowing an increasing sharing between young creators.

Among the various programs already implemented in partnership, we now begin two more projects that make up the triennium: the 2nd edition of the podcast "A Collection for Tomorrow" and the Workshop in Maputo with Portuguese choreographer Victor Hugo Pontes.

The EVC resumes the program "A Collection for Tomorrow", curated by Cristina Peres, but this time with a cycle of ten conversations dedicated to the dance scene in Mozambique. According to Cristina Peres "Lisbon and Maputo are cities connected by the marks of those who have woven invisible threads associating the memory of the body to all the others that we will gather, now in a systematized way, in a new collection of conversations." EVC materialize the imaginary bridge between Lisbon and Maputo in a second collection of ten conversations with protagonist of Mozambican dance, which will be broadcasted on EVC's YouTube channel from July to November this year.

From July 5th to 9th the two institutions will hold a workshop in Maputo, with Portuguese choreographer Victor Hugo Pontes, at Camões - CCP Maputo. During one week, Victor Hugo Pontes works with local performers, where participants explore the choreographer's language and creative process, allowing the development of physical, emotional, and creative skills, paving the way for future initiatives.
