Eni Rovuma Basin announces start of vegetable oil production in Mozambique

Eni Rovuma Basin (ERB) announces the start of production of vegetable oil that will be used as raw material in Eni's bio-refineries in Italy.

This initiative is part of Eni's strategy to contribute to the decarbonization of the transport sector and includes Mozambique in the sustainable mobility value chain.

This project is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADER) under the Specific Agreement signed in February 2022 for the development and cultivation of oilseed crops.

The vegetable oil, which is extracted from by-products of local agro-processing plants, is certified according to the ISCC-EU (International Sustainability Carbon CertificationEuropean Union) standards, which guarantee that the inputs for biofuel production are produced sustainably and allow for traceability, respect for the environment and human rights.

The development of this project in Mozambique will involve thousands of local farmers and will enable the creation of an industrial platform for the production of agricultural raw materials in the country, promoting socio-economic development in rural areas and the regeneration of degraded agricultural land.

On the other hand, ERB also intends to support farmers by transferring knowledge and introducing mechanization and best practices, in order to further develop and strengthen local capacities.
