CTA - Confederation of Business Associations of Mozambique, social partner of the Government and Trade Unions, representing the employers, uses this opportunity to wish all workers a Happy Day. This is a special milestone, given the social peace that reigns between employers and workers, despite the various adversities.
This day is marked at a time when the Government has just approved new national minimum wages. The wage adjustment rates range from 3.09% for the Private Security Subsector, which was the lowest, and 7% in Sector 1, Agriculture, which was the highest. On average, the wage readjustment rate was 5.4%.
These readjustments embody the difficult context that companies are going through and constitute a great effort to, on the one hand, correct the effects of the corrosion of workers' purchasing power and, on the other hand, maintain jobs.
The salary adjustment results from an agreement between employers and workers, in order to adjust to the country's economic changes, such as economic growth, inflation, and others. It can affect the entire salary structure, given the need to adjust the salaries of the top positions in the companies.
With the wage adjustment rates being the possible and maximum that employers could commit to, and given that there are some who declare an ability to pay, the CTA encourages these companies not to stick with the approved wage adjustment rate, and to be able to adjust according to their abilities.
CTA wishes all workers a happy day and may social peace continue to reign, with dialogue being the most appropriate channel to bring the parties together.
