The National Elections Commission (CNE) announced this Friday in Maputo that next year's municipal elections are budgeted to cost more than 9.7 billion meticais.
For the 2024 general elections, the budget is expected to be 18.7 billion meticais, said Paulo Cuinica, CNE spokesman.
Recall that the Council of Ministers decided on Tuesday to schedule the ballot for October 11, 2023.
The CNE announced yesterday the constitution of the provincial and district electoral bodies, which should take place within 60 days.
"There are a number of steps that must be completed in order to hold the next municipal elections, which include the constitution and installation of supporting bodies," Cuinica said as he launched the process in Maputo.
He said that the provincial and district bodies will consist of representatives of the three parties with parliamentary seats (Frelimo, Renamo and MDM), according to the legislation in force.
The CNE will also be responsible for proposing to the Government the dates for voter registration for the local elections.
On the other hand, conditions are being created for the accreditation of the political parties' representatives, election observers, and journalists who will follow the ballot, he added.
