The Mozambican Football Federation may announce that the Mambas have withdrawn from the CHAN 2024 qualifier against Zambia due to various social and sporting factors.
Feizal Sidat, president of the FMF said that the political situation in the country, namely the popular demonstrations called by Venâncio Mondlane, could jeopardize the preparation process, as well as the staging of the match in Maputo.
Another factor that could lead to a withdrawal is the fact that he won't be able to count on all the players called up for the Mambas, bearing in mind that they are domestic players who have to play in the competition.
The biggest concern is the fact that the Black Bulls are involved in African competitions, namely the CAF Cup, and with consecutive matches, namely on December 8 and 15, to close the first round, and January 5, 12 and 19, for second round matches.
According to the president of the Mozambican Football Federation, the decision on whether or not to withdraw from the qualifier will be made in the next few days. If the decision is in favor of the Mambas taking part in the qualifier, the squad will be announced in the next few days, and preparations should begin next week.
For the final qualifying round for CHAN 2024, the Mambas are scheduled to play Zambia, first in Maputo on December 21 and a week later in Ndola, Zambia.
