Last week, the government began a nationwide survey of state assets destroyed during the violent demonstrations to contest the results of the October 9, 2024 elections.
The national director of State Assets at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Dário Sidónio Passo, was quoted by "Notícias" as saying that in the next few days he hopes to have a clearer picture, both in quantitative and qualitative terms, of the level of destruction of public assets.
Passo said that the work is being carried out by local teams, covering the district and provincial levels, and should culminate in the centralization of information.
"This is a process that starts at the local level, with local teams collecting data that will then be systematized, allowing for the globalization of results and a more accurate analysis of the impact of these acts," the source told the newspaper.
It should be noted that the demonstrations took a new turn with vandalizations and looting of commercial establishments, causing a significant impact on the commercial sector, especially in the city and province of Maputo.
At least 12,000 people have lost their jobs due to the destruction, including processing industries across the country, which experts say has the potential to jeopardize the growth of the economy. (Source: News)
